Mattress tension is a preference thing. Soft mattresses tend to have that "sink in" cosy feel to them, which may suit some people, however, many people prefer a firmer mattress as they provide a more supportive sleep. However, just because a mattress is firm in tenion does not mean it will aid posture or be any good for your back. The Great Mattress debate! Again, a preference thing. Opencoil Mattresses are probably the most common and provide a good support, whereas pocket spring springs encapsulated in their own individual pockets to allow the mattress to mould to your contours more. Memory foam is a hea responsive material and moulds to your body shape and is used by many posturepedic and medical mattress companies. Try some mattresses out to see what kind of person you are!
